Development and Documentation: Saving your World. - Rachel Lee
There are a lot of ways to document your world, and there’s only one really bad way: keeping ideas on scraps of paper that you’re sure you’ll never lose because they’re so important and you look at them every time you write so WHERE THE HELL DID THEY GO?
And keep in mind, that if you need to venture into this world again, you’d better have all the important details at your fingertips, because your readers will know the minute you forgot some detail, or changed something they consider important.
At a minimum, have a notebook or binder. Better yet, take advantage of having a computer. I develop and document my worlds, characters, and stories with mind-mapping software, but you can also use a word processor, or PowerPoint. It helps if the software you use allows you to embed hyperlinks – to documents or web pages – because it’s easier to retrieve the information. Most word processors do support hyperlinks now, as does PowerPoint.
